2 People Injured In DIA Crash Released

Continental Begins Luggage Return Process

POSTED: 4:19 pm MST December 26, 2008

Two people injured when a Continental Airlines jetliner veered off a runway in Denver, including the plane's pilot, have been released from the hospital.

Two other people were still being treated Friday at the University of Colorado Hospital where they were listed in fair condition.

Continental spokeswoman Kelly Cripe said the plane's captain had been released but she wouldn't discuss his injuries.

Authorities say he was at the controls Saturday when the Houston-bound plane left the runway and sped about 2,000 feet across a taxiway, an access road and grassy slopes before sliding to a halt on its belly in a shallow ravine as the jet burst into flames.

All 115 passengers and crew got out through emergency exits and 38 of them were injured.

Investigators haven't released a cause of the crash.

Continental said Friday it has begun the process of returning the passenger luggage that wasn’t burned in the fire. The airline said it was contacting passengers after identifying and cleaning the luggage.
