DENVER -- A Boulder man blamed for the deaths of four people pleaded guilty to felony theft in an unrelated case and was sentenced to 48 years in prison Wednesday.Scott Lee Kimball, 42, was given the heavy sentence because he also pleaded guilty to three counts of being a habitual criminal. The charges quadruple the normal sentencing range.Kimball has been convicted in Washington State, Montana and Denver on charges of forgery, possession of counterfeit securities and theft in three different cases in the last seven years.
In Wednesday’s plea, Kimball admitted he'd siphoned more than $50,000 from a Lafayette optometrist’s bank account, police said. He has been ordered to pay $71,190 in restitution.Kimball, a former FBI informant, is suspected in the deaths of four people, including his uncle.Editor's Note: A quote in the original story was erroneously attributed to Sarah Huntley.
