DENVER -- Google has released its year-end list of the most popular terms searched on the Web site.In the United States, Barack Obama came in at No. 1. Rounding out the top spots are Facebook, AT&t, iPhone, YouTube, FOX News, Sarah Palin and Beijing 2008.The most-searched images were Sarah Palin, Barack Obama, twilight, Miley Cyrus, and the Joker.
The economy was also on the minds of Google searchers. The top economic terms searched in 2008 were: financial crisis, depression, bailout, mortgage crisis, Wall Street, oil, stock market, subprime, credit crisis and housing crisis.The most popular television shows searched in 1998 were: American Idol, Lost, Saturday Night Live, The Office, Family Guy, Heroes, Oprah, One Tree Hill, Big Brother and CSI.Searchers also asked Google "What is…" love, life, java, SAP, Scientology, autism, lupus, 3G and art.In compiling the 2008 Year-End Zeitgeist, the Google search team studied the aggregation of billions of search queries people typed into the Google search box.
