Police Release Photos Of Stolen Undergarments

Detectives Ask For Help In Wesley Cox Case

POSTED: 1:33 pm MST December 3, 2008

Are you missing a thong, or maybe a cheerleader outfit?

Boulder police have released photographs and descriptions of dozens of undergarments found in the apartment of a man they arrested for allegedly videotaping naked women and couples engaged in sex.

Investigators have asked the potential owners of the undergarments to contact them to help with the ongoing investigation.

Wesley Cox, 44, was arrested on Halloween after two neighbors saw him holding a video camera pointed through a window in the 1500 block of 48th Street. A couple at that apartment did not know they were being videotaped, police said.

The neighbors who caught Cox held him down until police officers arrived. During the struggle, neighbors said he attempted to erase the tape on his video camera, but they stopped him.

The videotape contained images of several nude women -- who have not been identified -- and video of Cox masturbating with women's underwear, police said. He was videotaped in a bedroom that wasn't his own, police said.

Investigator obtained a search warrant for his home at 1505 48th St. and found dozens of women's undergarments. Cox lives alone. Some of the undergarments, including several cheerleading uniforms, are from Boulder High School.

Police believe the items were likely taken from homes within a two-mile radius of Cox's home. Detectives said it appeared that Cox broke into women's homes, stole clothing and then became obsessed with the victims.

Investigators would like to know who owned those undergarments because some of those women may also be the women who had been videotaped nude, and whom police cannot identify, Boulder police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley said.

Neighbors said they saw Wesley Cox videotaping a couple through a window.

Cox was booked on charges of unlawful sexual contact and trespassing. He could face more charges depending on the outcome of the investigation.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to contact Detective Jane Harmer at 303-441-3330 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. After hours, call the non-emergency dispatch line at 303-441-3333. Those with information who wish to remain anonymous should contact the Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or 1-800-444-3776.

Tips can also be submitted via the Crime Stoppers Web site at www.crimeshurt.com.
