Officer Shoots, Kills Armed Robbery Suspect

AURORA, Colo. -- A man suspected of aggravated robbery was shot and killed by an police officer in Aurora around noon Tuesday.A Denver police officer was serving a warrant for aggravated robbery at a home on South Kittredge Way near Harvard Avenue, and had asked for backup from Aurora officers, police said. As officers from both departments watched the house, the suspect ran, with officers pursuing."As he is running, he turns and points a gun at the officers who are pursuing him," Aurora police spokeswoman Shannon Lucy said.
That's when an Aurora officer fired, hitting the suspect, police said.The victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. His identity has not been released.Police said he was wanted in connection with an armed street robbery in Denver last month.About 90 minutes after the shooting, a woman walked up to the crime scene and screamed, "Oh, no. No, no." The woman, believed to be the suspect's mother, was led to a police van parked nearby.Minutes later, a man who identified himself as the suspect's big brother arrived at the house and yelled at police officers.The officer who fired at the suspect has been placed on routine administrative leave, pending a review of the shooting. Officers with the Major Case Squad are investigating.
