GOLDEN, Colo. -- The search is on for a prominent Denver oral surgeon missing since last week.
Johann Clary, 41, from last heard from on his cellular phone about 30 miles northeast of Steamboat Springs where he was cross country skiing, according to family and friends.
On Sunday, November 24th Clary called his fiance, Joan Qualls (pictured left), to let her know he was having car troubles in the mountains during his cross-country ski trip.
He spent the night in his car, he told Qualls, then called her back three times on Nov. 25th but the connection was bad and Qualls couldn't hear what Clary was saying.
There has been no word from Clary (pictured right) since those calls, according to his fiance.
The family hired a helicopter crew to search the area and ground crews searched areas in Routt and Jefferson Counties but nothing turned up.
Clary's cell call was traced to a tower about 15 miles north of Walden but the area is still too big to pinpoint the doctor's exact location.
Clary, an oral surgeon with an office in downtown Denver, was an experienced hiker and skier who often ventured alone, according to family and friends.
"He's the kind of person that if there's a sign that says don't go there, it doesn't apply to him," said fiance Joan, speaking to 7News about Clary's adventurous spirit.
Friends think if Clary's vehicle can be found it will provide a big break in the mystery.
"The most important part is finding that vehicle because then we can get the support from the government agencies to do the search and rescue," said family friend Jim Miller. "We've been working on this for four or five days and we've accomplished very little ... but it's not due to a lack of effort."
And the family feels time may be running out.
"Even if he did not think he was in trouble, we feel like he's in trouble now." Joan said.
Clary has a young son who lives near Evergreen, Colo.
At the time of his disappearance Clary was driving a silver Subaru Outback, Colorado license plate ECU4018. Clary is a white male, 41 years old, 5-foot-9 and 175 pounds.
Anyone with information about Dr. Clary's disappearance is asked to call either the Jefferson or Routt County Sheriff Department's.
