Fort Collins Police Investigate String Of Church Burglaries

Churches Broken Into During Early Morning Hours

POSTED: 5:30 pm MST November 19, 2008
UPDATED: 6:12 pm MST November 19, 2008

Fort Collins police say the burglaries of 12 churches since September may be linked but they still have no idea who is responsible.

The latest burglary occurred early Tuesday morning. All of the burglaries occurred either late at night or in the early morning, with the burglar or burglars forcing themselves into the church through a window or door, said Fort Collins police spokesman Al Brown.

Once inside, the burglars steal any cash or food that is readily available and leave before they are spotted by church staff or patrons. No one has been injured during the burglaries.

Investigators don't believe that the burglaries are the result of hate crimes, and said the denominations of the churches vary, so no specific denomination is targeted.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact Fort Collins Police Services Detective Vogel at 970-416-2392 or Crime stoppers at 970-221-6868. Crime Stoppers can also be reached through their Web site.
