Recycle Your Post-Thanksgiving Cooking Oil

Oil Converted To Biodiesel Fuel

POSTED: 4:39 pm MST November 13, 2008
UPDATED: 2:47 pm MST November 19, 2008

Thinking of making fried turkey this Thanksgiving?

Well, instead of tossing out the oil or dumping it in the drain -- recycle it.

The Rocky Mountain Sustainable Enterprises (RMSE), a local Colorado company that provides waste cooking oil recycling, are partnering with several Front Range cities to raise awareness and divert used cooking oil from municipal water systems and landfills.

This year's recycling event will be held on Nov. 29 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The dropoff locations will be in Arvada, Aurora, Aspen/Pitkin County, Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, Greeley, Lafayette, Longmont, Loveland, Littleton, Louisville and Thornton. To find the exact locations, go to RMSE.biz.

Last year’s recycling event diverted nearly two thousand gallons of used cooking oil and was recycled into many different substances, including biodiesel -- a renewable fuel, RMSE said.

RMSE provides used cooking oil recycling service to more than 2,000 restaurants, commercial food facilities and municipal recycling centers throughout the Rocky Mountain Region. The company is developing a biodiesel production facility in Fort Morgan, which will produce renewable biodiesel fuel from waste feedstocks.
