Cyclist Is Victim Of Drive-By Paintball Attack

Police Searching For Three Men In Ford Explorer

Aurora police are looking for the men who pulled off a drive-by paintball attack earlier this week.

A man was riding his bike home from work on Monday night when a vehicle pulled alongside him at the curb and three people inside fired several paintballs in his chest.

"My husband was so shocked by the assault. Instant memories of the 1992 war in Bosnia raced through his head," said the victim's wife, Yevette Verneaux. "He immediately jumped off his bike and ran chasing the men in their vehicle down the street not even aware of the cars behind him."

The victim said his attackers were three black men between 18 and 25 years old. The victim is fine but he didn't get a license plate number on the red Ford Explorer.

"Luckily, my husband is a tall and healthy Bosnian man who could take the assault. It just unraveled some unpleasant memories of hell in a country where he had no choice but to survive until it was almost too late," said Verneaux.

His family asks that if anyone saw three men in a red Ford Explorer in the area of Sable and Mississippi at about 6 p.m. Monday, call Aurora police.

The victim called police with his cell phone and police have made a report, but the family fears that the attackers will never be found.

"Our biggest fear is that these young men will not stop their lust for assault and could eventually transition to real guns," Verneaux said.
