A freshman at the University of Colorado was arrested Friday night after police said they found drugs, weapons and burglary tools in his room.

The Boulder Daily Camera reported Ryan Gilway turned himself in to police after officers received a tip from the New West Inn in Boulder that an "incredible amount of suspicious traffic was coming in and out of his room," said CU police Cmdr. Brad Wiesley.

Police searched Gilway's room and found what appeared to be cocaine, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, a passport, cash, lock-picking tools and a fixed-blade knife, Wiesley said.

Gilway, 18, an undeclared major at CU was booked into the Boulder County Jail and released on bond.

This is the second time officers said they have recovered weapons and drugs from Gilway's rooms.

Wiesley said Gilway was living in the Sewell residence hall until Oct. 6 when police found 38 baggies of marijuana, bolt cutters, a large folding knife and a set of brass knuckles.

He was moved to the motel by the university's housing department while police investigated, Wiesley said.

Now, Gilway faces as many as nine charges from both incidents, including possession of illegal weapons, possession of burglary tools and various drug charges, Wiesley said.

CU's Office of Judicial Affairs will review Gilway's status as a student once charges are filed, police said.
