Suspect In Broncos Shooting Has Hearing Continued

Willie Clark Charged In Slaying Of Darrent Williams

POSTED: 6:54 am MDT October 30, 2008

A man accused of killing Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams in a drive-by shooting had his arraignment continued Thursday morning.

Willie D. Clark, 25, faces 39 counts in Williams' death early on New Year's Day 2007. Clark was indicted on charges of first-degree murder, 16 counts of attempted murder, assault and discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

Williams and Clark were at Club Safari, near 10th Avenue and Broadway, with separate groups who exchanged taunts inside, according to the indictment.

The argument continued outside, and Williams and his friends left in a rented limousine.

A witness told investigators that Clark was driving a white Chevy Tahoe when he caught up with Williams' limo at 11th Avenue and Speer Boulevard and fired into it.

Authorities said two weapons were used -- a .40-caliber and a .45-caliber -- and at least 15 shots were fired into the limo. Williams was hit in the neck by one of the bullets.

Clark's hearing was continued until Dec. 19.
