7NEWS received numerous calls from Southern Colorado residents who said that they spotted a white light flashing across the night sky around 5:12 p.m.

Motorists said that they saw the bright flash as they were driving south on Interstate 25.

The Denver Museum of Nature and Science confirmed it was a meteor and are investigating. Scientists believed it hit somewhere around Pueblo or possibly New Mexico.

7NEWS is always interested in hearing from anybody who may have seen the meteor -- especially if you have pictures or video. You can send pictures to newstips@TheDenverChannel.com.

And if you missed it, not to worry. The Leonid Meteor Showers will be at its peak in Colorado at 3:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19. It is unknown if this meteor may be related to that shower.

One viewer described the latest meteor as "bright, neon-green color, like new grass." Steve Ipsen compared it to the bright meteor seen just a month ago and said that they both seemed to have landed very close.

In early October, Colorado residents spotted two bright meteors in two days at nearly the same time. One was spotted Oct. 7 traveling toward New Mexico. It was described as blue-green with a yellowish tail. The meteor on Oct . 6 may have exploded 10 to 20 miles above eastern Utah or western Colorado, according to invesigators at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

The Cloudbait Observatory, which tracks meteor sightings, said that the "Rocky Mountain region has experienced a very unusual burst of fireball activity."
