GREELEY, Colo. -- The man charged in the slaying of a transgender woman in Greeley was involving in a fight with two other accused murderers that escalated into what the local newspaper called a "riot" at the Weld County jail.

The incident happened on Sept. 25 but was not reported until Wednesday by the Greeley Tribune.

According to an affidavit obtained by the newspaper, Allen Andrade, 31, got into a fight with Adrian Gomez, 26. Another inmate, John Hernandez, 31, was also involved and the fight escalated to include 11 inmates in all, Weld County sheriff's spokeswoman Margie Martinez told the newspaper.

Andrade is charged the beating death of Angie Zapata last July.

Gomez is charged in the shooting death of Luis Rocha last January. Hernandez is charged in the death of his infant daughter last December.

The Tribune reported that Andrade was observed punching an inmate who had been thrown to the floor of the jail pod and another inmate joined it.

A lockdown of the pod was ordered and additional deputies arrived to help quell the growing disturbance. The fights were finally subdued through the use of pepper spray.

According to the report, on Sept. 25, Andrade began punching an inmate who had been thrown to the floor. Another inmate joined the fight 30 seconds after it started, at which point an officer called for assistance and ordered a lockdown, according to the affidavit.

Andrade, Gomez and Hernandez, along with Enrique Llama and Nathan Morales were charged on Oct. 22 with felony riot-related charges, according to the newspaper. Morales is also charged with felony assault.
