Frederick Kaercher (pictured, left), 65, had a rocky relationship with his daughter, Monica, who had just moved back into the family's home on Marcia Street about three months ago, WDIV-TV in Detroit reported. The pair had an argument Tuesday afternoon over items missing in his house, according to police. Police said that the argument escalated and Frederick Kaercher got a kitchen knife.

The police investigation found that Monica Kaercher had a stab wound to her neck and was dead at the scene, according to Detective Dave Andrew.

Police said that Frederick Kaercher had recently stopped taking his medication, but would not elaborate on what the medication was for. He started to cry in court Wednesday before proceedings began, the station reported.

"I'm sorry Janet," Frederick Kaercher said to his wife in court.

Christmas decorations were among the missing items and Frederick Kaercher reportedly loves the holiday. He has played Santa Claus for the city of Warren for the last several years, the station reported.

Bail was denied Wednesday and Frederick Kaercher is expected back in court later this month.

Monica Kaercher was engaged to be married, the station reported.
