Missing Woman's Body Found; Soldier Arrested

Internet Murder Case Involves MySpace

Police have arrested a Fort Carson soldier on suspicion of first-degree murder and sexual assault after investigators said he led them to the body of a woman who had been missing since Friday.

Robert Hull Marko, 21, a Fort Carson specialist from Decatur, Mich., was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center on Monday.

Judilianna "Judi" Lawrence, 19, was reported missing Friday from her Stratmoor Valley home south of Colorado Springs. A three-day search for her turned up few clues until Marko's arrest.

An informant told police that Marko's yellow Jeep was spotted near the area the night Lawrence disappeared. When questioned, Marko led investigators to the body in a wooded area, along Old Stage Road, behind Colorado Springs' Broadmoor neighborhood, said Sgt. Robert Jaworski of the El Paso County sheriff's investigations division.

"There were statements made by the suspect leading us to this area," he said.

Marko told investigators he had a disagreement with Lawrence and he took them to the place he said he left her.

Marko, who turned 21 Monday, is a mortarman with the 4th Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division. He served in Iraq from January 2007 to February 2008.

Suspect Voices Twisted Interests Online

Dozens of investigators searched for Lawrence in the North Cheyenne Canon area over the weekend after Lawrence's mother, Aekyung Lawrence, discovered Lawrence had been exchanging e-mails with Marko after they met on MySpace. One e-mail said Lawrence and Marko were to meet for the first time Friday, Aekyung Lawrence said.

Judilianna "Judi" Lawrence's body was found in October 2008, three days after she disappeared.

"She's such a good girl," Aekyung Lawrence said. "She never dated. She doesn't even drive. She would never run off with someone."

She said one exchange she read frightened her.

"I think he hurt my daughter because of the things he said in the computer," she said.

The online relationship had spanned several months, according to the dates on the e-mails. Lawrence was listed as a "friend" on Marko's MySpace page.

Marko's MySpace page showed photos of him in Iraq, holding weapons. On his profile, he said, "I'm becomeing (sic) a cold hearted killer and can kill without mercy or reason."

Under a section marked "Who I'd like to meet," Marko's page says, "One day i would like to meet death."

On Marko's dating profile on PlentyOfFish.com, he said he was preparing to deploy to Afghanistan in 2009. On VampireFreaks.com, Marko's profile indicates he is looking "for any goth or emo females, same ages who are looking for a semi goth soldier."

On another sex site, a person with Marko's e-mail address posted, "I'm looking for female slave in Colorado Springs, CO region ... i'm looking for possible offline relationship. I only want females in Colorado Springs region."

He also posted, "I'm looking for just about any kind of female that likes pain and it would be great if u lived in or close to Colorado Springs."

Investigators said Lawrence's body showed no obvious signs of trauma and an autopsy would be needed to determine the cause of death. It's unclear if she was raped, but Marko is charged with sexual assault, along with first-degree murder.

John Lawrence said his daughter had a learning disability and attended special education classes.

Marko is the eighth soldier from the 4th Brigade Combat Team suspected in a local homicide, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported Tuesday.
