GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- Grand Junction police said the suspect in shootings that killed two people has died. Twenty-two-year-old Stefan Alexander Martin-Urban died around 1 p.m. Sunday at St. Mary's Hospital. Police said he had no criminal history. He had been living with a relative in Lakewood for the last seven weeks after moving from the Los Angeles area. Police said Martin-Urban suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound after opening fire outside the home of a dentist Saturday morning.
Killed were 60-year-old Floyce Gallagher and 61-year-old dentist Terry Fine. Fine's wife, Linda, was hospitalized. Fine's neighbor was shot but was out of the hospital Saturday night. Police said they had not yet found any link between the suspect and the victims and did not know of any ties the suspect had to the Grand Junction area.Investigators said Martin-Urban fired more than a dozen shots, some at close range, using a 9mm handgun."It appears he reloaded his gun at least one time. He was carrying a navy blue canvas grocery bag at the time of the shooting. We believe that bag contained ammunition and spare magazines," said Kate Porras of the Grand Junction Police Department.Police said they are working with the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms to identify where the gun came from. Police said information from the suspect's vehicle indicated Martin-Urban was in the Grand Valley area Friday morning, but police were trying to determine where he was between then and the shootings. Police executed search warrants at Martin-Urban's home and the Fines' home but would not say what they found in the homes or in the suspect's vehicle. No suicide note has been found.
