BOULDER, Colo. -- A Boulder sandwich shop on University Hill has been closed by Boulder health officials after it was linked to an E. coli outbreak that hit a sorority house last month, the Daily Camera reported Thursday.According to the published report, Jimmy John’s, at 1125 13th St., was temporarily closed as a precautionary measure after the local health department determined that a number of people who became ill from the bacteria had eaten there.A Boulder County Public Health spokeswoman told the newspaper that the county isn’t sure if the restaurant is the source of the E. coli.
A statement issued by Jimmy John's said: "We are working with the health department as they investigate the E. coli source. As anyone who has been in a Jimmy John’s can attest, we take cleanliness very seriously. We routinely monitor our food suppliers and we have the highest quality standards in the industry. We are confident that we will open soon."Eight cases of E. coli were investigated last week in Boulder. Seven of the cases involved members of a sorority and the eighth case was a sorority advisor. The health department did not identify the sorority. The Daily Camera reported that Boulder health officials are investigating 17 cases of E. coli.
