Charges Filed In Fatal Crash With Cyclist
Man Was Not Wearing Helmet, Police Say

DENVER -- Prosecutors said they will file charges against the driver of a SUV that hit and killed a cyclist in Boulder over the weekend.Sarah Lavigne, 33, was turning onto Mapleton Avenue from 14th Street when she hit and killed a bicyclist, said police spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.Police identified the victim as Matthew Powell, 49.
Huntley said Powell was thrown into the air and sustained serious head injuries when he hit the ground. He was not wearing a helmet she said.Powell was taken to Boulder Community Hospital where he later died, police said.Lavigne will be charged with careless driving resulting in death, Huntley said.
