4 More E. Coli Cases Among Day Care Children

First Child Died From Infection

POSTED: 10:13 am MDT September 30, 2008

Tri-County Health Department reported Tuesday that four mores cases of E. coli have been discovered, connected with an unlicensed in-home daycare in Aurora.

The four announced Tuesday brings the total case count to six, which includes a 3-year-old boy in that day care who died on Sept. 19 of an E. coli infection.

All of the other children are reported to be doing well and none have been hospitalized. The children's ages range from infant to 3 years.

"These recent cases confirm that in all likelihood, the illness was transmitted within this daycare setting," said Dr. Richard L. Vogt, executive director of the Tri-County Health Department.
