Reusable Shopping Bags Help Local Nonprofit Group
Mission Wear Turns Jeans Into Reusable Grocery Bags
Every time you go grocery shopping you can end up with a lot of unwanted plastic bags. A local woman hopes to change that with Mission Wear, a nonprofit organization that provides jobs to women recovering from addiction and prostitution."About three and half years ago, I mentored a woman coming out of a program for prostitutes and she could not get a job because of her history of felonies and drug addiction," said Mission Wear founder Beth McWhirter.McWhirter said because of her passion to save the environment and help women in need, she came up with Mission Wear to have the best of both worlds.
Mission Wear uses recycled material like jeans, coffee bean bags, and even store banners and turns them into reusable grocery bags."My goal for these women is to create stability for these women and the stability of working on a regular basis. Also to teach some of the ladies that haven't worked in a long time the standards of a job," said McWhirter. You can find some of the reusable bags at local stores for about $14 each.
