Three Residents Of Home Arrested
POSTED: 5:52 p.m. MST October 31, 2002
Wheat Ridge police said they found 10 pit bulls emaciated and neglected in a local home Monday, apparent victims of animal cruelty.
The animals were found in the garage of a home in the 3900 block of Moore Street.
There were five adult dogs and five puppies.
One puppy tested positive for parvovirus, and other dogs have sores and cuts. Officials said all of the puppies are thin and appear to be very ill.
The animals were removed from the home and taken to Table Mountain Animal Shelter.
Despite the alleged abuse, the animals are apparently not vicious.
"They're actually very sweet animals. I've been in the cages with them, our staff's able to interact with them. They're very sweet, very gentle, a little bit scared," said Cory Vasquez of the Table Mountain Animal Shelter.
Officers also searched the house and found marijuana plants, a handgun, and three ounces of a substance believed to be cocaine.
Police arrested Raymond Peinado, 32, Miguel Angel Leon-Contreras, 28, and Katheryn Marie Parker, 23.
Peinado was transported to Jefferson County Jail for two outstanding warrants for failure to appear in court on dangerous drug charges.
Leon-Contreras and Parker were released pending formal charges of possession of a controlled substance and multiple counts of animal cruelty, Wheat Ridge Police said.
