Colorado Springs authorities are considering more charges against an atheist accused of threatening to behead two women with a knife because they are Christians.

KRDO reported the man, Russell Bowman, who claims to be an atheist, made the threat on Sept. 8.

Bowman made his way to the woman's apartment with a knife Friday, police said.

According to police reports, a neighbor saw him and grabbed a shotgun and went to defend the two.

Bowman refused to drop his knife, police said, and the neighbor hit him with the butt of the shotgun.

Police Lt. David Whitlock said Bowman was booked into El Paso County jail Sunday on suspicion of felony menacing. Police have said Bowman might lose his eye because of the blow, but Whitlock said Monday he couldn't discuss Bowman's condition.

Police said Monday other charges are possible. The neighbor who hit Bowman was not charged.
