FRISCO, Colo. -- The Colorado Avalanche Information Center, based in Boulder, is asking for help to raise much needed operating funds.Center director Ethan Greene is working to raise donations from new as well as longtime contributors. The Colorado Avalanche Information Center falls under the Colorado Department of Natural Resources. It receives money from ski resorts, mountain towns, the U.S. Forest Service, the Colorado Department of Transportation, state severance taxes, and grants from foundations and private associations.
The Friends of the CAIC are proud to host the Second Annual CAIC Benefit Bash, a benefit for the Colorado Avalanche Information Center, on Nov. 14 at the Breckenridge Riverwalk Center. The Friends of the CAIC invite you to help support the CAIC in its efforts to promote safe winter recreation. The evening will be filled with live music, tasty food, incredible beer, and great people. There will be a silent auction and door prizes.Colorado has one of the most dangerous snowpacks in North America. On average avalanches kill more people in Colorado than any other natural hazard. The purpose of the CAIC is to minimize the economic and human impact of snow avalanches on the recreation, tourism, and commerce industries. They succeed in achieving their purpose through a dual mission of forecasting and public education. As more and more people venture into the backcountry, it is imperative that they continue to have this resource available. The CAIC provides valuable information for both recreational users venturing into the backcountry and professionals working in avalanche terrain. The center operates on a limited budget and needs your support to continue this important work. The Friends of the Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization created to support the CAIC, while contributing to avalanche awareness and education throughout the State of Colorado. They achieve this mission through donations, grants, and fundraising events. If you think avalanche forecasting, education, and awareness is important in Colorado, then this party is for you. A $20 donation at the door includes one door prize ticket, three beer tickets, dinner and entertainment from Rooster Rocket. For more information or to purchase tickets online go to FriendsOfCAIC.org or e-mail Aaron Carlson.
