Student Athletes Urged To Pay Attention To Post-Game Nutrition

Smart Choices Helps Athletes Finish Strong

Student athletes and their parents often focus on what to eat or drink before a game or practice, but most don't focus on the importance of replenishing the body immediately after strenuous exercise.

Registered dietitian Mitzi Dulan said teens and their parents need to know about healthy post-game nutrition and that all-important recovery period.

After a game or workout, teens should remember to drink plenty of fluids. It's also critical to replenish key minerals that may be depleted during practice or play.

And, remember, young athletes should give their bodies time to recover. Teens need rest and a good night's sleep to allow tired muscles to recover.
