A Fort Collins man was rescued off Mount Holy Cross Saturday evening after he was separated from his partner and called 911.

Robert Smith, 22, became separated from his hiking partner on Angelica Couloir on Saturday morning, according to the Eagle County Sheriff's Office. He continued hiking and later found himself on a ledge, authorities said.

A Blackhawk helicopter was called to help locate Smith.

Three volunteers from the Vail Mountain Rescue Group rappelled 450 feet down through dangerous terrain to rescue Smith.
