Wildfire Near Rifle Zero Percent Contained
25,000-Acre Mayberry Fire 100 Percent Contained

RIFLE, Colo. -- The 100-cre Porcupine Fire, located five miles southwest of Rifle, had help from firefighting aircraft Thursday and was getting more help on Friday.There were two single-engine air tankers, one heavy air tanker, and one helicopter that dropped multiple loads of retardant and buckets, as well as two engines that assisted in the firefighting on Thursday.The Juniper Valley-Rifle hand crew started ground work on the fire Thursday evening. The fire is located mostly on BLM land and border Forest Service land and private land.
The fire is zero percent contained. There are oil, gas and structure resources in the area, but none are in immediate threat.The Northwest Colorado Incident Management Type III Team took over leadership of this fire Friday morning. More resources are expected Thursday, including several Type I Hot Shot Crews.The cause of this fire is still under investigation.

The 25,385-acre Mayberry Fire 32 miles northwest of Craig was 100 percent contained Thursday night. It was started Sunday by lightning. The change in acreage is due to precise mapping of the fire's perimeter.The 956-acre Lone Fire 15 miles north of Elk Springs was also 100 percent contained Thursday night. It was also started by lightning Sunday.The 5,150-acre Prong Fire 23 miles northwest of Craig was 100 percent contained Tuesday night.The pilot involved in Wednesday's single-engine air tanker crash has been released from the hospital with minor injuries. The investigation into that crash continues.Fire crews and resources from Moffat County, the towns of Maybell and Meeker, State Forest Service, the BLM, U.S.Forest Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the National Park Service all worked these fires.
