Bob Palmer, the longtime Denver news reporter and anchor known for his folksy style has died.

Palmer, 77, died Tuesday night.

He was one of the most well-known television anchors in the Denver market, working at Channel 4 and anchoring Channel 7 news during his 40-year career.

He began his career as a writer and reporter at KOA-TV in Denver and retired in 1997.

KCNC-TV news director Tim Wieland said that Palmer was most proud of being a reporter, not an anchor, but always signed off from the anchor desk with his signature phrase "It's nice to have you with us on News 4."

Palmer's family said he died of natural causes.

Funeral services will be private.
