Don't Get Hooked By The Unclaimed Money Pitch

You Can Find Out About Unclaimed Money For Free

UPDATED: 3:32 p.m. MDT October 17, 2002

Wouldn't it be nice to find out you had hundreds of dollars just waiting for you to claim?

Well, that's the hook telemarketers are using to scam you out of $25 - or a lot more.

To avoid the scheme, check out our Call 7 For Help consumer alert.

Call 7 For Help has received a number of calls from viewers who say they have received a telemarketing call from a claims retrieval company.

The person on the other end of the phone tells you you have more than $600 in unclaimed money or property and they'll get it to you. All you have to do is fill out a claims form and fork over $25 to the claims retrieval company.

Don't fall for it! You can get your unclaimed money free of charge. Plus, these claims companies have a history of deceiving consumers.

It's a good rule of thumb to never give money to anybody you don't know.

To find how to get your unclaimed money or property free of charge by calling the Great Colorado Payback at (800) 825-2111 or logging on to the official Web site. You can also read more about finding unclaimed money by clicking here.
