The Weld County District Attorney filed child abuse charges Tuesday against a Greeley man whose son died when his heart stopped.

Greeley police said they found Ernesto Talavera-Nunez's 11-month-old son dead inside his home on Aug. 12.

The autopsy found the boy had electrical burns and died of a cardiac arrest.

Investigators said Talavera-Nunez had worked on an alarm clock at the home and left exposed wires within reach of the child.

Talavera-Nunez is being charged with class-three felony child abuse -- negligently causing death.

If convicted, Talavera-Nunez could face a sentence of probation, community corrections or four to 16 years in prison.
