Multi-Vehicle Crash On I-70; 1 Car Catches Fire

DENVER -- All lanes on westbound Interstate 70 are back open after a semi-tractor trailer hit multiple vehicles just west of the E-470 overpass.The Colorado State Patrol said that at least six vehicles were hit by the semi in the western part of Aurora, including another semi.At least one vehicle caught fire as a result of the crash.
Nine people were involved in the crash and several were taken to local hospitals including one victim who was airlifted by a medical helicopter.The victim who was airlifted was in the car that caught fire. He was conscious and breathing when he was pulled from the wreckage.The crash was reported at about 8:20 a.m. and the westbound lanes were closed for cleanup of the wreckage and accident reconstruction.The westbound lanes were reopened at about 2:45 p.m.The cause of the crash is under investigation.
