An early morning apartment fire has displaced at least one family in Aurora.

The fire started in a unit of the Sage Creek Apartments at 1072 Billings Street shortly before 5 a.m.

Heather Moore, an occupant of the apartment that burned, told 7NEWS her boyfriend was cooking steaks when the fire broke out in the kitchen.

The residents, including a 15-month-old girl and a 9-year-old girl, were able to get out safely.

Another apartment was evacuated due to smoke.

The Aurora Fire Department had the fire under control within minutes of arriving.
