A private jet crashed Thursday morning just outside the Owatonna Airport, killing at least seven people.

One person on board was taken to Owatonna Hospital and was listed in critical condition, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported. Two other people were unaccounted for, the newspaper reported.

According to the Owatonna Degner Regional Airport, the Raytheon Hawker 800 jet crashed off the end of the runway while attempting to land at about 9:30 a.m. local time.

The jet was reported down about two miles northwest of the airport, attempting to land on Runway 30.

Officials said a severe storm system was moving through the area at the time. Major wind damage was reported in Owatonna from the storm. Peak wind gusts were estimated 80 mph.

According to FlightAware.com, the jet was flying from Atlantic City, N.J. to Owatonna when it went down.

The plane is owned by East Coast Jet, FAA records show. The plane was flying passengers to Viracon, the largest single-source glass fabricator in the United States.

Viracon said the victims were scheduled to meet at their Owatonna-based offices, before taking off again for Tennessee.

Don Pyatt, president of Viracon, told ABC affiliate KSTP that the people on the jet were from "a couple of different companies" who were coming to the glass manufacturing plant to discuss a "major project" in Las Vegas. Pyatt declined to say what companies were involved or what the project was.

Viracon was selected last year as the glass supplier for the Freedom Tower that will rise on the site of the World Trade Center towers in New York City.

Owatonna is approximately 60 miles south of Minneapolis-St. Paul and has about 20,000 residents.
