12-Year-Old Sexually Assaulted, Suspected Illegal Immigrant Held

Suspect Has Juvenile Convictions Involving Child Sex Assault

POSTED: 9:05 am MDT July 30, 2008

A registered sex offender, who is also believed to be an illegal immigrant, has been accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in Greeley.

Raul Jesus Mendoza, 19, spent several years in juvenile corrections as a teenager after he was convicted of several other child sex assaults, the Greeley Tribune and KFKA Radio reported Wednesday.

In the latest case, Medonza is accused of taking a 12-year-old girl to an apartment and sexually assaulting her on July 25. The alleged victim's sister told police she went to the apartment and told Mendoza to stop.

Although Mendoza was a registered sex offender as a result of his previous convictions, he wasn't listed on the sex offenders Web site because he was a juvenile at the time.

Mendoza is being held on a $200,000 bond and also being held for Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
