BASALT, Colo. -- A homeowner in Basalt thought he heard a burglar in his kitchen, but when he went inside to confront the bad guy, he found a bear. The Vail Daily newspaper reported Mike Miller spotted the bear and ran. Miller told the paper, "I wasn’t ready to fight a bear."The bear had opened the sliding freezer door and was helping himself to shrimp and fruit.
Miller ended up outside his home watching the bear enjoy a snack in the kitchen and even some cookies from Miller's roommate's closet.Miller called police, but the bear wandered away.Miller said it appeared the bear had been tagged by the Colorado Division of Wildlife for being a nuisance. The Vail Daily reported wildlife officers have set a trap for the bear in the past, but have not caught the bear.Read more about the bear encounter in the Vail Daily newspaper.
