DENVER -- Moisture from the remnants of Hurricane Dolly will begin moving into the southwestern United States, bringing a change to the recent hot and dry weather pattern. While it will still in the 90s during the afternoon, the rain will be a welcomed sight for a parched city.Denver’s total precipitation since Jan. 1 is currently 6.49 inches below average. There will be a chance of thunderstorms during the afternoon hours this weekend, with heavy rainfall in spots. Slow moving storms may create flood-like conditions for certain areas.
Friday is the thirteenth consecutive day with 90 degree temperatures, putting this current heat wave in the top five hot streaks since the 1870s. Todays high reaching into the 90s ties the 13-day heat waves in 2002 and 1878.Temperatures for the next several days will potentially be in the 90s as well, continuing our streak. The most consecutive days in the 90s is 18 days in a row in 1901 and 1874. We may come close to that record.
