A 1-year-old boy was run over in the driveway of his Jefferson County home by his grandfather, investigators said.

The mishap was reported at 4:48 p.m. Wednesday, in the 1100 block of Quaker Street in unincorporated Jefferson County.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Jorge Herrera ran out of the house to greet his grandfather, also named Jorge Herrera, when he was hit.

The 43-year-old driver was backing up his 2001 Ford F-550 pickup truck, which had a flatbed trailer behind it, when the boy ran into the path of the vehicle, running over the boy's leg, according to the state patrol.

The boy was rushed to Denver Health Medical Center in serious condition.
