A 53-year-old woman was killed Wednesday morning when her car ran off the side of the road and started spinning in the air.

The Colorado State Patrol said the accident happened at 9:13 a.m. on Larimer County Road 21 near County Road 6.

A tan 1984 Buick Riviera was headed south when it went off the right side of the road, overcorrected and came back onto the highway while rotating.

“The vehicle continued and went off the left side of the roadway in an airborne manner over an embankment and struck the ground with its right front corner and rolled one and a half times,” said Trooper Gilbert Mares of the Colorado State Patrol.

The driver, Pamela Cox, of Berthoud, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected and killed, Mares said.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as being contributing factors in the crash, but the patrol said speed may have contributed.

The accident remains under investigation.
