Construction Crane Collapses At Vail
No Injuries Or Damage Reported

VAIL, Colo. -- Emergency crews were working to remove a construction crane that fell across the South Frontage Road of Interstate 70 Wednesday afternoon as part of a construction project at the Vail Spa Condominiums, 710 West Lionshead Circle.The accident was reported at 12:25 p.m. and there were no injuries and no property damage.Both lanes of the South Frontage Road remained closed two hours after the collapse.
Vail Deputy Fire Chief Mike McGee said the crane operator-owner was hoisting materials off the ground and onto the roof when the crane became unstable and tipped the truck it was attached to. It is a 40-ton capacity mobile crane owned by HI Cranes, Inc., of Eagle, Colo.Vail Spa is managed by East West Resorts and includes 32 condominiums. The Frontage Road will be reopened later Wednesday evening, once the crane has been cleared.Investigators from the Occupational Safety & Health Administration are en route from Denver to conduct an investigation.A construction crane collapse in Aspen last month.
