A Weld County Court found probable cause and enough evidence Wednesday, to proceed with the child abuse trial against Lamar Roberts, said Jennifer Finch, with the Weld County District Attorney’s Office.Roberts, 17, is charged with child abuse resulting in death. Roberts and girlfriend Heather Trujillo, also 17, were accused of beating Trujillo’s half-sister to death, during a re-enactment of the video game “Mortal Kombat.” Roberts and Trujillo were babysitting at the time.In May, Trujillo pleaded guilty to child abuse-negligently causing the death of Zoe Garcia, 7, and was sentenced to 18 years in prison. As part of a plea deal, Trujillo’s sentence will be suspended, if she serves six years in the Youthful Offender System program. Trujillo has also agreed to testify against Roberts.
The trial for Lamar Roberts has not been set. His next court appearance is a disposition on Aug. 15, Finch said.
