Teen Dies In Early-Morning Joy Ride

POSTED: 8:59 am MDT July 23, 2008

A 17-year-old Colorado Springs teen has been identified as the girl who died in an early-morning joy ride with friends.

According to police, Lolita Prater helped her boyfriend push the Ford Explorer out of her driveway just before 1:30 a.m., so they wouldn't be awakened when it started.

Prater was carrying three other teenagers in the sport utility vehicle when it rolled in Black Forest, partially ejecting her at 2:45 a.m.

The three other teens in the car, her 18-year-old boyfriend, a 14-year-old girl and 14-year-old boy, were not injured in the crash.

Alcohol and drugs were not suspected as factors in the rollover, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Prater would have been a junior at Lewis Palmer High School in the fall.
