THORNTON, Colo. -- With near-record high-temperatures and dry conditions, officials are growing increasingly concerned about the fire danger in Colorado."As the heat goes up, incidents escalate much quicker," said North Metro battalion Chief Kevin Sweeney. And it's not just an issue in the mountains. The fire danger is escalating on the plains and in the city, too.
"And those fires don't have to consume a lot of acres to be destructive. Proximity to homes can be dangerous. Things can go from good to bad in a hurry," said Sweeney.North Metro is reminding residents to discard cigarette butts in a safe place, be mindful of their surroundings even when having backyard barbecues, and use common sense."If you think what you're doing is not right, don't do it," said Sweeney.
