DENVER -- Chances are that Denver won't set a new record high temperature Sunday. That's because the current record high is 105 degrees, set back in 2005, which is the warmest it's ever been in the city since weather observations started being recorded in the 1800s.But it's still going to be hot, hot, hot. As in triple-digit hot.
The reality is this weekend could be the hottest Colorado has seen this year. Saturday's high temperature was 98 degrees. Sunday the mercury will likely climb to 100 degrees. The state has not hit triple-digit temperatures so far this year.Average afternoon temperatures this weekend are in the upper 80s.Dry weather returns this weekend, meaning the fire danger will be high. Isolated thunderstorms are possible Sunday, but the main threat will be lightning and gusty winds. Unfortunately, little rain is in the forecast. With thousands of people attending the Mile High Music Festival this weekend, and with countless others enjoying Colorado's great outdoors, health officials remind residents to stay hydrated by drinking lots of water and staying away from caffeinated drinks and alcohol. Dress in light-colored clothes and avoid strenuous activity.
