The Colorado State Patrol said a SUV carrying eight people rolled twice on Interstate 70 Friday night, killing one person and shutting down the interstate for several hours.

The accident happened near mile marker 163 in Eagle County.

The patrol said the white 1999 Ford Expedition lost control and ran off the right side of the highway and rolled two full times, ejecting a man.

Paramedics pronounced the man dead at the scene, said Master Trooper Ron Watkins.

Seven other passengers in the SUV, all between 16 and 22 years old, were taken to the Vail Valley Medical Center with moderate to minor injuries, Watkins said.

The driver and one other passenger were the only ones wearing seatbelts, he said.

Westbound I-70 was closed for several hours while investigators worked the scene.

The patrol said they suspect alcohol as a factor in the crash.
