AURORA, Colo. -- A suspected drunk driver accused of hitting a man with his sport utility vehicle, dragging him several hundred feet and then pinning him under the SUV, appeared in court Thursday to find out what charges he faces.The Arapahoe County District Attorney's Office charged Keith Busey, 21, with felony vehicular assault, driving under the influence, reckless driving, and several other misdemeanors and traffic violations.The dragging victim, Kennith Newell, 25, was not in Arapahoe County court but several of his family members were.
In court Thursday, Busey attempted to apologize to the victim's family but they wanted none of it.Aurora police said they were called out on reports of a street fight early Saturday morning near the 3100 block of South Uravan Way. They were interviewing Newell, who had a head wound from the fight when Busey allegedly struck him with his white Geo Tracker.Police said Busey also hit two parked patrol cars and narrowly missed hitting an officer. It's not known if Busey was involved in the original fight.Newell is doing well but remains hospitalized.
