A homeless man with criminal history sexually assaulted a teenager in the parking lot of the Lone Tree library last week, police said Monday.

Scott J. Sylvia, 25, was identified through DNA evidence, a Lone Tree detective said.

The victim told police she was sitting in her car in the parking lot between the Lone Tree Library and Cook Creek Pool when she was attacked by a man with "noticeable body odor." The attack occurred on July 7 at 5:15 p.m.

On Saturday, evidence that was submitted to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation was analyzed and provided a DNA match to a profile from the convicted offender index, said Lone Tree Police Sgt. Ron Pinson.

Sylvia was a transient living in the Denver area. Coincidentally, Sylvia was arrested Saturday morning by Denver police in connection with an unrelated crime.

A warrant was obtained for Sylvia, and he was taken into custody on investigation of kidnapping, aggravated robbery and sexual assault. He is now being held at the Douglas County Jail.
