Funeral Scheduled For Abandoned Baby
Still No Clues Into Identity Of Parents
POSTED: 12:50 p.m. MDT September 24, 2002
A memorial service is scheduled Friday for an abandoned infant known only as "Baby Boy Doe."
Employees of L&M Auto Repair found the boy wrapped in a
blue fleece blanket with a teddy bear and a skateboard depicted on it (pictured, left). The infant was left underneath a pepper bush at U.S. Highway 85 and Weld County Road 2 1/2, just north of the Brighton city limits, on Sept. 11.
The child was dead when he was found, but an autopsy later revealed the boy had been born alive sometime between 10 the previous evening , and 2 a. m, the day he was found. It was not known how long he had been on the ground outside the auto repair business.
Authorities still have not located child's mother or father. The boy is being laid
to rest without a name, family or heritage.
A reward fund of $1000 has been established by an anonymous donor for information leading to the identity of the mother or the person responsible for placing the infant where he was found. Authorities said he could have been legally left at a hospital or manned fire station, both of which were located within a 2-mile radius of where he was found.
The city of Brighton and two area funeral homes are providing
for the child's service at 1 p.m. Friday at Tabor Funeral Home
in Brighton. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Brighton.
In several previous cases, investigators have taken surveillance photographs of those attending services in hopes of identifying the mother.
The Weld County Sheriff's Office asked anyone with any information to call: Investigator Teri Rinne at (970) 356-4015, ext. 4637 or (800) 436-9276, ext. 4637.
