Former Fort Carson Soldier Accepts Plea Deal In 2 Slayings

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- A defense attorney said a former soldier accused in the deaths of two enlisted men from Fort Carson has accepted a plea agreement and will testify against his co-defendants. Bruce Bastien Jr. was expected to enter a plea on Monday. The charge he will face has not been disclosed. His attorney, Richard Bednarski, notified a judge of the plea agreement on Thursday.
Bastien is currently charged with first-degree murder in the Aug. 4, 2007, robbery and shooting death of Pfc. Robert James and the Dec. 1, 2007, shooting death Spc. Kevin Shields. Louis Edward Bressler is also charged with first-degree murder in both deaths. Kenneth Lee Eastridge faces charges of first-degree murder and accessory in Shields' death. He is not accused in James' death. Bastien and Bressler are being held without bond. Eastridge is being held on a $500,000 bond.
