COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Colorado Springs police said they cited a driver for rear-ending a motorcycle police officer in presidential candidate Barack Obama's motorcade. The Secret Service said the officer suffered minor injuries in the accident that happened near the onramp of Interstate 25 Wednesday night. Obama later told a crowd of donors at a hotel that he talked to the officer, Jerry Orvin, to convey his concern and was told "it's all part of the job."Obama talked to the officer by telephone before making his appearance.
"He is OK," Obama told the crowd. "I called him and he said it's all part of the job. He’s doing all right." A campaign spokeswoman, Jen Psaki, said the officer was released from the hospital. Secret Service spokesman Eric Zahren said personnel in the motorcade provided first aid to the officer. Colorado Springs police Sgt. Scott Wisler said the driver of the van was cited in the accident. It happened on the ride to the fundraiser at the Broadmoor Resort.
