VAIL, Colo. -- Vail police are reporting at least seven bears spotted in the area in just a two week period, according to the Vail Daily newspaper.The newspaper reports callers spotted a bear trying to get into a Dumpster in East Vail on June 15, 16 and 20.In one of those three cases, an officer shot a bear with a pepper ball. The bear retreated toward the mountains.
On June 20, there were three more bear calls. In one case, a bear was spotted trying to get into a Dumpster for about 20 minutes. When the officer arrived, the bear ran into the nearby woods.In the third case, the caller saw a bear across the creek from the East Vail Racquet Club.In the fourth case that day, a driver on I-70 at mile marker 181 reported seeing a bear on a hill.On June 22, two callers reporter a bear at a loading dock in the cascade neighborhood. One caller said it saw the bear pushing on a broken door. Officers came out, but when they arrived, the bear was gone.
