MANHUNT

Manhunt Continues In Douglas County

Day 3 Has Some Residents On Edge

Castle Rock residents say they're concerned about two armed suspects who are still on the loose for a third straight day.

"I'll come home from work early," said Sandy, a suburban mother of two teenage daughters when asked what, if anything, she would do differently.

She also refused to give her real name.

"I think you could locate my house exactly, and I'd rather not," Sandy said.

The men were chased by two Douglas County sheriff's deputies for at least 15 miles from the east side of Interstate 25 near Founders Parkway to Highway 105 and Dakan Road early Saturday morning.

They also fired several shots while trying to get away in an older-model Honda Accord, which they eventually ditched, running off into remote terrain on foot.

Both sheriff's cars were hit, with one deputy suffering an arm injury.

He has since been released from a hospital but did not want to speak with the media Monday.

"I didn't consider them -- and still don't -- to be a threat to the public. A serious threat to the people trying to catch them, obviously. But, it seemed to me that they were trying to maintain as low a profile as possible and they weren't out to shoot the general public," Douglas County resident Morgan Russell said.

Russells was one of 2,400 homes to get an emergency notification phone call at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, warning them not to open their doors to strangers.

"I didn't take it as an imminent threat. It was unusual, obviously, and I was impressed by the fact that they made that alert at that hour," Russell said, even though he did sleep with a shotgun next to his bed as a result.

Investigators haven't released much of a description of the culprits.

They're believed to be white men in their 20s with blond hair.

One may speak with a British accent.
